Big Announcement!!!

INTO THE SHADOWS will be released this fall, hopefully in November, 2010, as an ebook on Amazon (Kindle) and Smashwords (eReader, iBook, Nook, etc.).  I will still continue to post INTO THE SHADOWS (now three days a week) here on the blog for you.

So as not to cause any confusion, no one is publishing me and I still don't have an agent.  This is definitely not a reaction to not having one or anything like that. I still plan to pursue an agent on my current and future books, in hopes of one day becoming traditionally published.   I have thought long and hard about this opportunity and I think I'm in the right place at the right time and I don't want to miss out.  While I in no way think that ebooks are going to completely take over the publishing world, I do believe that they are going to make a nice dent in the industry. As a matter of fact, I think they already have.  I would love to be part of this new book-related adventure and see where it takes me.  I'm also excited because I think the ebook market for YA has been sort of off-the-radar at the moment and I'd love to get in on the ground floor.

Of course I have fears that it will epically fail, no one will purchase it and those that do will give it awful reviews.  But I hold out some hope that I am actually a decent writer with a good story that will give some readers enjoyment.  I've been encouraged by the readers that come back, week after week, to follow Paivi's story here on the blog.  I'm not totally walking into this with my eyes shut, either.  I've done a lot of research and will be following J.A. Konrath's How to Make Money on Ebooks article as closely as possible.

The reason I'm telling you all about this now, months before the release, is quite simple.  I'd like you to go on the journey with me.  I'll post, based on Konrath's list, what I'm doing to make this successful.  Each step of the way, good or bad, I'll let you know what's going on, all the way up to the release date.  After I release the book, I promise to fully disclose exactly how many books are sold (if any) per month and the profits I'm making.  It would be awesome to pull some of the numbers that Konrath and his friends are, who wouldn't want to make $1500 bucks a month off something you've written?  But I'm a realist, and if I make $500 bucks over the year, at least I'll have covered my costs, maybe with a little to spare.  I'll also have my work out there, for the public to enjoy in a more comfortable format than small chunks on my blog.

If you have any questions/comments, let me know.  I'd be happy to answer.  If you have already done this, feel free to share your expertise!  I'd love to hear your tips and your successes!

  1. I published a collection of my western stories via Kindle and Smashwords just a month ago. I found it to be a rewarding experience and sold a reasonable number. Good luck with yours.

  2. Go Karly!!!

You are very brave - in some ways I'm more afraid of e-publishing than getting it done traditionally. There is so much out there to learn.

I'm excited to be following you!!!
