April Is For #Vampires: Twilight

Okay, so we all knew it would have to be discussed at some point. Twilight is by far the biggest vampire franchise in the last decade, and I do respect that. I'm certainly not meaning this as a slam to Stephenie Meyer or any Twilight fans. I'll be honest, I'm not a fan. In all fairness, I did read all four of the Twilight novels. I just really hated Bella. I thought she was annoying and whiny. But I did enjoy the other characters enough to continue reading. I wanted to see what happened to the rest of them. So for that, I give Meyer credit for keeping me engaged despite the fact that I wanted her protagonist to die a slow, painful death.

I'm sure many will disagree with me regarding the movies as well, they were, in a word, awful. I honestly felt bad for true Twilight fans because I didn't feel the dedication was there from the producers money-wise. You deserved much better. I know I would have been devastated if the Harry Potter films were garbage. I sat through the first one, and had to turn off the second. But I did give it a try. And I am glad Twilight became a big deal, because without the Twilight craze, I probably wouldn't have my favorite TV show, Vampire Diaries. So thanks, Twihards!

  1. I love to write to the Twilight and Eclipse soundtracks. That would have to be my favorite part of the Twilight craze.

To give props to Stephenie - if I hadn't read the Twilight series I wouldn't have known about The Host, which I really, really, really, really loved. :D

  2. I love Twilight! I know, I should be caned or stoned or something, right? But I can't help it...this book is what forced me to stop daydreaming about writing and actually do it. And now I'm going to be published, so I have a soft spot for this one! (And the Eclipse movie was the best thus far, just in case you thought about revisiting them!)

And I agree with Megg...writing to the soundtracks (and to Stephenie's playlists) is awesome!

  3. oh good point about The Host, Megg. That book has its own place on my shelf. loved it! And yes, the soundtracks were awesome, though I liked the first one better than the second. And my fav show is also the Vamp Diaries! I heart Damon. He is yummy! I did like Twilight (I'll admit) but the point is, I agree that its because of the Twilight franchise that YA paranormal is so huge in alot of ways. It turned ALOT of readers on to this genre, so I am really glad its out there.

  4. I already have read all four books of the Twilight sequel and though I'm glued on the book, excited what would happen to the Bella-Edward-Jacob triangle and of course, the ending, I was kind of frustrated at the end. It didn't turn out good the way I expected it. ah well, the movie did not give much credit to the books.
